Palestinians call on UN to investigate "Israeli crimes" amid escalating violence

Xinhua, October 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

The cabinet of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) government on Thursday called on the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to probe "the Israeli crimes" in Palestinian territories.

The consensus government said the UNHRC is demanded to send a special committee as soon as possible to investigate the Israeli crimes committed against Palestinians.

"The Israeli crimes are committed against defenseless Palestinians and the UN rights council has to investigate these crimes that violate the human rights laws," a PNA statement said, condemning Israel's excessive use of force.

The statement said that "these crimes are committed in front of the world which basically refuses to call Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to account for legalizing the murder and killing of children and defenseless people."

The cabinet of the PNA government held Israel fully responsible "for escalation and for the crimes that are committed by its occupation forces and by the fanatic settlers in the West Bank and in Jerusalem."

The government also called on the UN Security Council and all UN agencies as well as the Arab, Islamic and non-aliened countries "to bear the responsibility and act urgently to protect the Palestinian people."

Tensions have heightened between the Palestinians and Israel's army and settlers following the death of two Israeli settlers in a shooting ambush near the northern West Bank city of Nablus on Thursday. Two other Israelis were stabbed to death in East Jerusalem.

Massive clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces continued Thursday near the Jewish settlement of Beit El in the West Bank. Palestinian media reported dozens of injuries.

The Israeli army has killed six Palestinians, saying that three of them were killed after conducting stabbing attacks. The rest three, including a 13-year-old child, were killed during clashes in the West Bank that left more than 500 others wounded. Endit
