Singapore stocks close 0.5 pct lower

Singapore stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 14. 78 points, or 0.5 percent, to close at 2,947.03.

A total of 1.38 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 23 billion Singapore dollars (872.3 million U.S. dollars).

Decliners outnumbered gainers 245 to 159, while 528 others finished unchanged.

The STI index gained 64.4 points, or 2.22 percent, to close at 2,961.81 on Wednesday. Endi
