Philippines pledges to secure safe release of Italian kidnap victim

Xinhua, October 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Philippine government vowed Thursday to secure the safe release of an Italian national who was kidnapped in the southern city of Dipolog by armed men.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said that the Philippine National Police is now pursuing the perpetrators.

"They (police) will do the necessary action to secure the release of Mr. Rolando del Torchio," he said in a news briefing in Malacanang, the presidential palace.

The government has been doing everything to improve the peace and order situation in the country and to ensure the safety of all people, including the foreigners, he added.

Coloma said the kidnapping incident involving the Italian businessman was an isolated case that should not affect the image of the Philippines as a place for investments. Endi
