Al-Shabaab militants killed the nephew of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, police officer and witnesses said on Wednesday.

Ahmed Alasow, a police officer in Wadajir district, told Xinhua that Liban Osman, Somali president's nephew who worked at the Somali presidential palace was shot dead in Mogadishu's Wadajir district.

"The militants armed with pistols fired on Liban while he was traveling at the Wadajir district on Wednesday. We also heard that another government official who worked for justice ministry was also killed in the attack," he said.

Witnesses reported that unidentified gunmen opened fire at Liban and his colleague.

"When they killed both of them, they escaped the scene and then Somali security forces arrived at the place," said Maslah Sheikh, a local resident.

Al-Qaida affiliated group Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack. Enditem
