Top trade negotiators of the United States and 11 other Pacific Rim countries have reached a deal on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade pact, which covers about 40 percent of global economic output, local media reported Monday.

Senior officials were expected to announce the deal at a closing press conference in Atlanta, Georgia, scheduled at 9:00 am EST (1300 GMT) on Monday after wrapping up the round-the-clock TPP ministerial meeting here that has lasted for about five days. (U.S.-TPP-Agreement)

STOCKHOLM -- China's Tu Youyou, Irish-born William Campbell and Japan's Satoshi Omura jointly won the 2015 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, the Nobel Assembly at Sweden's Karolinska Institute announced Monday.

Tu won half of the prize "for her discoveries concerning a novel therapy against Malaria", while Campbell and Omura were jointly awarded the other half of the prize "for their discoveries concerning a novel therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites," said the assembly. PYONGYANG -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has released and deported a South Korean American student Monday through the truce village of Panmunjom, the country's official news agency KCNA reported Monday.

The 21-year-old student, Joo Won-moon, is a South Korean citizen who is studying at New York University and has permanent residency in the United States. Joo was caught trying to enter the DPRK by crossing the Amnok River from China's Dandong, a border city between China and the DPRK and has been held by the DPRK authorities since April 22. GAZA -- Israeli war jets carried out an airstrike early Monday on the Gaza Strip, eyewitnesses and security officials said. No injuries were reported.

The security officials and eyewitnesses said that Israeli fighter jets fired missiles on a training post belonging to al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas movement in Gaza. (Irseal-Airstrike-Gaza)

MAIMANA, Afghanistan -- A Taliban's massive offensive on Faryab's provincial capital Maimana city, 425 km northwest of Kabul, was repulsed Monday morning leaving 23 insurgents dead bodies, deputy to provincial police chief Baryali Basharyar said.
