Slovakia needs new security, defence strategy: official

Xinhua, October 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovakia needs to define its new security and defence strategy to reset long-term security interests, said Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry State Secretary Igor Slobodnik on Monday.

Addressing the Slovak Security Forum 2015, Slobodnik said some areas deserve increased attention, including energy security, territorial defence, participation in the United Nations' peacekeeping operations, hybrid warfare and the migration issue.

"Security is not just about defensive measures. We need to comprehensively develop all relevant capabilities and strengthen coherence and immunity of the society, including the immunity against invasive propaganda," stressed Slobodnik.

Due to the end of the Parliamentary election cycle (to be held at the end of February 2016) and the incoming Slovakia's presidency of the European Union (July-December 2016), Slobodnik said the new security and defence strategy is expected to be adopted after 2016. Endit
