Many more Chinese tipped to visit Pattaya via airport nearby

Xinhua, October 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Many more Chinese are expected to visit a world-renowned beach resort of Pattaya, given an airport nearby, said a high-ranking Thai official on Monday.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand's Pattaya Office chief Suladda Sarutilawan said the number of Chinese travelers to Pattaya will largely increase when direct flights are available in the future between airports in southern China and U-tapao airport, about 45 kilometers south of the beach resort.

The beach resort is about some 140 kilometers from Suvarnabhumi airport and nearly 200 kilometers from Don Muang airport, located on the northern and eastern outskirts of the Thai capital, respectively.

Chinese tourists may fly from Nanning and Nanchang cities in southern China to U-tapao airport from where they can proceed to Pattaya by bus or taxi, Suladda said.

U-tapao airport, which used to be a military air base and has been turned into one of the country's international airports, is designed to accommodate visitors from China and other countries to the Thai beach resort and other eastern seaboard spots.

An estimated 10 million tourists from varied corners of the globe are expected to visit Pattaya throughout this year, generating some 2.7 billion U.S. dollars in tourism-related earnings to the beach resort, according to the TAT official. Endi
