Liverpool boss Rodgers sacked

English Premier League side Liverpool sacked manager Brendan Rodgers after they were held 1-1 by Everton in a Merseyside derby on Sunday.

The 42-year-old, who took over in June 2012, was dismissed just hours after the day's game.

The Reds stood 10th in the Premier League but reports said that the club had made the decision before the game.

"Although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch," the club said in a statement.

"The search for a new manager is under way and we hope to make an appointment in a decisive and timely manner," added the statement.

Liverpool won only four of their 11 games in all competitions this season, including victory on penalties against League Two Carlisle at home in the League Cup.

Rodgers led Liverpool to second place in 2014 but slipped to the sixth last season.

He was the second manager who was sacked on Sunday following the departure of Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat. Endi
