Pro-Russia Social Democratic Party leads in Kyrgyzstan's parliamentary elections

The Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan (SDPK), which is linked to pro-Russia President Almazbek Atambayev, led the polls in Sunday's parliamentary election held across the country, according to the Central Electoral Commission of Kyrgyzstan.

Results given by the Central Electoral Commission of Kyrgyzstan showed that the SDPK, founded by Atambayev, garnered 27 percent of the vote, followed by the Respublika Ata-Jurt with more than 20 percent of the vote.

Other parties that were able to collect the required number of votes and passed the 7-percent threshold required for parliamentary representation were Kyrgyzstan Party -- 12.83 percent, Onuguu-Progress -- 9.29 percent, Bir Bol -- 8.43 percent, and Ata Meken -- 7.74 percent.

There were 2,761,297 eligible voters out of Kyrgyzstan's total population of nearly 6 million, but only 55 percent of the registered voters participated in the parliamentary elections.

Sunday's elections were monitored by more than 600 international observers, who claimed no serous violations were found during the process of voting. Endit
