The 182th Munich Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival, comes to the end on Sunday evening, having attracted 5.9 million visitors from all over the world, the Munich official organizer announced here on Sunday.
Compared with last year, there are 400,000 visitors less this year. They have drunk about 7.3 million liters of beer, 0.4 million liters less than 2014. Another 114 oxen and 50 calves have been consumed.
Despite the decrease in the number of visitors, the festival organizer considers this year's Oktoberfest of "the highest level," said Josef Schmid, chief of the festival.
According to the organizer, the reason for the decrease in the number of visitors might be mainly the autumnal weather: sunshine during the day and bitterly cold temperature at night.
In addition, the Munich police are "very satisfied" with the outcome of this year's Oktoberfest.
Contrary to some fears, there has been no single case, in which the refugees and festival guests come to blows. About 7,000 refugees have arrived at Munich central railway station, near the festival meadow, according to the police.
The history of Oktoberfest could date back to 1810, when Bavarian Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Since then, people celebrated the anniversary of their marriage in midst of the Theresienwiese, which was named after Princess Therese. Endit
