Xinhua, October 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 10 people were killed and more than 20 wounded on Saturday in two suicide car bomb attacks in northern Baghdad, a police source said.

The attacks occurred at the crowded entrance of the holy Shiite district of Kadhmiyah in northern Baghdad when one suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden car, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Shortly after, another suicide bomber blew up his car bomb some 50 meters away from the first blast site, the source said.

The toll could rise as ambulances, police and civilian vehicles were evacuating the victims to the nearby hospitals and medical centers, the source said, adding that several civilian cars were set ablaze while many others were damaged by the two blasts at the scene.

Iraq has been witnessing some of the worst violence in years. According to a recent United Nations report, terrorism and violence have left at least 12,282 civilians dead and 23,126 others injured in 2014, making it the deadliest year since the flare-up of sectarian violence in 2006-2007. Endit
