Sevilla beat Barcelona 2-1 in Spanish league

Xinhua, October 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sevilla coach Unai Emery finally saw a side he coaches beat FC Barcelona as goals from Michael Krohn Delhi and Vicente Iborra saw his side defeat Barca 2-1 on Saturday.

Emery has needed 22 attempts to beat Barca, but his side took advantage of another disappointing display from the Messi-less league champion to chalk up their second win in a week and inflict Barca's second league defeat in 7 games.

As expected Claudio Bravo replaced Ter Stegen in goal after recovering from injury, while Jordi Alba was also back at left back for Barca and Munir was given the task of replacing Leo Messi, who will be out for the next two months.

The two sides had produced a 5-4 thriller in the European Supercup final in August and the first half promised more of the same as both sides exchanged chances.

Sergi Roberto and Neymar had the first shots for Barca, before Kevin Gameiro drew a save from Bravo with an angled header and Jeremy Mathieu did well to deny the Frenchman getting a close range shot on target.

It was proving to be an open game, but Barcelona coach Luis Enrique will not have been impressed by the way his side gave the ball away far too often allowing Sevilla to get men such as Vicente Iborra into their penalty area.

Neymar was unlucky to see a free kick hit the post, rebound off Sergio Rico and run along the goal-line without ever crossing it, while Suarez also curled a shot off the bar which bounced to safety.

Krohn-Dehli opened the scoring in the 52nd minute after Gameiro beat Jordi Alba and Mathieu down the right and crossed for the Dane to sidefoot past the helpless Bravo.

He then turned provider with a cross from the left of the area which Iborra nodded past Bravo to send the fans into wild celebrations.

Rico then produced three magnificent saves in the space of a minute to thrice deny Neymar as Barca looked to drag themselves back into the game, but he was helpless as Neymar scored from the penalty spot as Sandro Ramirez's shot hit Benoit Tremolinos on the arm.

Sandro then hit the woodwork from close range after a Suarez pass as Barca laid siege to the Sevilla goal in the closing minutes.

However, it was not to be and Unai Emery finally ended his jinx against Barcelona, while the Catalans can officialy be considered to be in crisis. Endite
