Philippines thanks Chinese envoy for visiting, extending help to typhoon survivors

Xinhua, October 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Philippine government on Friday expressed gratitude to Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua who visited survivors of typhoon Haiyan (locally named Yolanda) earlier this week and extended assistance to them.

In a statement released Friday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said Zhao stayed in transitional shelters in the villages of Tagpuro and Cali in Tacloban City in central Philippine province of Leyte, the hardest area hit by the typhoon in 2013.

Zhao distributed relief packs to the families. He also consoled two families staying at the Cali transitional site who lost several family members at the height of the typhoon.

Corazon Soliman, secretary of the department, thanked Zhao for meeting the survivors in the transitional shelters.

She said the Chinese envoy's visit indicates the strong ties that continue to bind both countries.

She assured the ambassador that a more decent life awaits the families when they transfer to their permanent homes. Endi
