The Venezuelan government on Thursday highlighted the significant economic and social progress of China in recent years and congratulated the country's people and political leadership on the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

In a statement released by the foreign ministry, the South American nation joined the National Day celebrations and extended a "fraternal greeting" to China.

"Venezuela welcomes the achievements of the Chinese revolution for the benefit of its heroic people and world peace, while making wishes for the realization of the Chinese dream of national reinvigoration under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and the Communist Party of China," said the statement.

On this historical date, Venezuela reiterated the bonds of brotherhood that unites the two countries and its commitment to deepen the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, it added.

"We will continue to advance our ties based on principles of mutual benefit, common development, planning and solidarity," added the statement.

Bilateral trade between Caracas and Beijing stood at 16.98 billion U.S. dollars in 2014, according to China's Foreign Ministry.

China and Venezuela have stressed that their ties transcend the diplomatic level and are sustained by numerous agreements in strategic areas, such as energy, infrastructure, agriculture, technology and education. Enditem
