Number of asylum seekers in Slovak accommodation facility increasing

Xinhua, October 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

The temporary accommodation facility for refugees at Gabcikovo in the Southern Slovakia is currently home to 260 people from Syria who are seeking asylum in Austria, confirmed Slovak Interior Ministry spokesman Petar Lazarov on Thursday.

"The asylum seekers from Austria are being looked after by Austrian officials. Hence, we're unable to comment on their activities," explained Lazarov.

The first group of Syrian nationals who are applying for asylum in Austria arrived in Gabcikovo on Sept. 17.

Gabcikovo deputy mayor Arpad Meszaros said that the migrants are causing no trouble while moving around the village.

"We're sorry to note that the municipal office is provided with no information on the arrivals of foreign nationals," added Meszaros. Totally up to 500 asylum seekers may be transferred to Gabcikovo. Enditem
