Grenade explosions injure 9 in bar in Burundi's Bururi province

Xinhua, October 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nine persons were injured in grenade explosions that occurred Wednesday night in a bar at Bururi town, in Bururi province, some 120 km south of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, police sources told Xinhua on Thursday.

"Unidentified people detonated two grenades in a bar at Bururi town, injuring nine persons, some of them seriously. The incident occurred at 21:15 (19:15 GMT)," said Laurent Nsengiyumva, police commissioner in Bururi province.

According to him, the two grenades also destroyed the bar roof.

Nsengiyumva indicated that the nine injured persons were evacuated to Bururi Hospital.

Without linking the grenade attacks and another incident that took place earlier, Nsengiyumva indicated that an hour before the grenade explosions, there was a quarrel between three civilians and a policeman who was accused of attempting to rape a woman.

During the incident, the three civilians beat the policeman, seriously injuring him on the leg and he was evacuated to Bururi Hospital.

Nsengiyumva added that five persons have been arrested over their alleged involvement in the grenade blasts. Endit
