Army airstrikes kill 25 terrorists in NW Pakistan

Xinhua, October 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 25 terrorists were killed on Thursday in airstrikes launched by the Pakistani army in the country's northwest tribal region of North Waziristan.

"About 25 terrorists were killed today in precise aerial strikes in the area ahead of Datta Khel close to Pak-Afghan border in North Waziristan," said an army statement.

Pakistani forces are battling Taliban remnants in the rugged mountainous areas after clearing main towns of the militants in North Waziristan.

The major offensive was launched in June last year and the army said over 3,000 militants have so far been killed.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif told the UN General Assembly late Wednesday that the operation in North Waziristan , codenamed "Zarb-e-Azb," is the largest anti-terrorism campaign against terrorists anywhere, involving over 180,000 of security forces.

"It has made substantial progress in cleansing our country of all terrorists and will conclude only when our objective has been accomplished," he said, adding the operation is complemented by an effective anti-terrorism National Action Plan. Endi
