China to boost tourist liners, yachts, cable cars, aircraft

China encourages domestic companies to develop their own tourism-related equipment, according to a cross-ministerial guideline released on Thursday.
China's demand for cruise liners, yachts, cable cars, low-altitude aircraft and equipment for theme parks is increasing as the tourism market is booming, but the country relies heavily on foreign suppliers, said the guideline jointly issued by six central departments.
China hopes that its domestic companies will be able to design, build and repair medium to large-sized cruise liners in five to ten years.
The guideline encourages companies to develop small and medium-sized yachts powered with clean energy.
China also wants to enhance its capability to produce cable cars in order to meet the demand of increasingly popular skiing and the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and Zhangjiakou cities.
The country encourages companies to develop low-altitude airplanes, helicopters and special air vehicles for tourism purposes.
In addition, China promises to help equipment makers for theme parks, which have become new attractions to travelers. The first Disneyland on the mainland is under construction in Shanghai and some real estate developers have announced plans to build similar parks.
The government will set up a fund to support the innovative development of tourism-related equipment, and it encourages companies in this sector to issue corporate bonds or shares. Endi
