Brazilian president' s approval rate remains low

Xinhua, October 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Despite the government's efforts to put the economy back on track and to rein in a political crisis, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff' s approval rating remained low.

According to a survey released on Wednesday by poll company Ibope, only 10 percent of interviewees consider Rousseff's government good or very good as 21 percent consider it regular while 69 percent consider it bad or very bad.

The figures showed slight improvement from the previous poll, released in June, when the president' s approval rating was only 9 percent.

In addition, 20 percent said they trust president Rousseff while 77 percent said they do not. Commenting on Rousseff's performance, 82 percent of interviewees said her second term, starting in January, was worse than her first from 2011 to 2014.

Under Rousseff's rule, the world's seventh largest economy has entered a steep recession and heavily affected by the Petrobras corruption scandal while Rousseff herself has faced calls in Congress for her impeachment.
