Cambodia deports 36 illegal immigrants

Xinhua, October 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodian authorities on Thursday expelled 35 Vietnamese and one Moroccan to their birth countries for illegally living and working in Cambodia, a senior police official said.

Major General Ouk Hai Seila, chief of the General Department of Immigration's investigation and procedure department, said the Vietnamese were sent back through the Bavet International Border Checkpoint, while the Moroccan man through the Phnom Penh International Airport.

"They were deported after we found that they had lived and worked in Cambodia without passports or valid visas," said the police chief.

Since the establishment of the General Department of Immigration in April 2014, Cambodia has expelled 3,226 illegal foreigners, 87 percent of whom are Vietnamese.

Under Cambodia's immigration law, any one living in the country without valid documents such as passports, visas or work permits are subject to deportation. Endi
