Tokyo shares open higher on overseas gains

Tokyo shares opened the trading Thursday higher as sentiment here was boosted by overnight gains in overseas markets.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 80.76 points, or 0.46 percent, from Wednesday to 17,468.91.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 8.70 points, or 0.62 percent, to 1,419. 86. Endi
