Sao Paulo signs Olympic football contract

Xinhua, October 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sao Paulo's Corinthians Arena will host 10 Olympic football matches next year under a deal signed with Rio 2016 organizers on Wednesday.

The 48,000-capacity venue, built for last year's FIFA World Cup, will host two group games, a quarterfinal and a semifinal in the men's tournament.

It will also be the stage for four group games, one quarterfinal and the bronze medal match in the women's competition.

"Our wish and our message has always been that the Rio 2016 Games are for all of Brazil, that they will integrate the country," Rio 2016 president Carlos Nuzman said. "This extraordinary stadium makes us all proud and will certainly be the stage of important matches."

Olympic football will also be played in the cities of Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Manaus and Rio. Endi
