Danish gov't appoints new defense minister

Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen on Wednesday announced the appointment of Peter Christensen as the country's new defense minister and minister for Nordic cooperation.

Christensen, who previously served as the Danish minister for taxation in 2011, replaces Carl Holst who stepped down on Tuesday in the midst of a series of scandals.

The new defense minister previously held many prominent positions in the Liberal Party, both as spokesman for political affairs and for finance after he was firstly elected to the Danish parliament in 2001.

He was, however, not reelected in the 2015 parliamentary election held in June. Endit
