Chinese President Xi Jinping returned home Tuesday, leaving behind him a deep footprint from his first appearance on the UN podium on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the creation of the world body.
Xi's historic presence at the United Nations, with a series of proposals and initiatives, has demonstrated that China, as a responsible major country, is playing an increasingly important role on the global stage.
Firstly, China's view on the international order has breathed new life into the development of international relations.
Speaking at the annual gathering of the UN General Assembly on Monday, Xi called for a new type of international relations featuring win-win cooperation and voiced his views on how to build a community of shared future for mankind.
While expounding the vision of a new type of international relations, Xi suggested that the international community build partnerships in which countries treat each other as equals, engage in equal consultations and show mutual understanding.
The Chinese president called for building a security architecture contributed and shared by nations and featuring fairness and justice, and also called for an open, innovative and inclusive outlook of development that benefits all, as well as increasing inter-civilization exchanges to promote harmony, inclusiveness and respect for differences.
Xi announced China's decision to establish a one-billion-U.S.-dollar China-UN peace and development fund to support UN work, advance multilateral cooperation and contribute more to world peace and development.
Xi's words are the innovation and development of China's view on the international order, which inherit and carry forward the principles of the UN Charter as well as provide new concept and open up new prospects for the development of international relations.
Secondly, Xi's speech and initiatives at the United Nations have reflected China's further contribution to world peace and development.
While addressing a peacekeeping summit, Xi expounded China's stance and principles on issues related to world peace, put forward important proposals on promoting UN peacekeeping missions, and announced a string of practical initiatives.
Xi said China will join the new UN peacekeeping capacity readiness system and China will provide 100 million U.S. dollars as free military assistance to the African Union in the next five years to support the establishment of the African Standby Force and the African Capacity for Immediate Response to Crises.
In addition, over the past days, Xi chaired the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, and the high-level roundtable on South-South cooperation co-hosted by China and the United Nations. The two events took place shortly after the adoption of the post-2015 Development Agenda, a blueprint for global sustainable development efforts in the next 15 years.
Xi's action has demonstrated China's determination to join hands with the international community in an effort to translate the post-2015 Development Agenda into reality. China is ready to push rich countries to honor their commitments to aiding poor ones and help other developing countries within the framework of the South-South cooperation.
At the UN headquarters, Xi also detailed proposals on promoting women's rights worldwide and reaffirmed China's utmost efforts to fight climate change.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon lauded China's leadership role in and remarkable contribution to promoting world peace and development as well as proper solutions to regional and international issues, saying that China is "an indispensable partner for UN agenda."
At present, China's diplomacy reaches a new historical starting point. As the world's largest developing country and one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, China has never so fully engaged in international affairs or shouldered such important responsibilities for safeguarding world peace and development like today.
In reality, China cannot realize its development without the world, and the world cannot enjoy its advancement without China. Endi
