Bangladesh forms special unit to investigate murder of Italian national

The Bangladeshi government formed a special unit of police on Tuesday to investigate the murder of an Italian national who was shot dead in Dhaka's Gulshan diplomatic enclave.

The formation of the special unit with officials from different branches of police was aimed at expediting the murder investigation, said a statement released by the police.

At a high-level meeting at the police headquarters in Dhaka, relevant government officials decided to form the unit, it said.

Italian woman Tavela Ceaser was shot dead at about 7:00 p.m. loca time on Monday (1300 GMT) in Dhaka's diplomatic enclave Gulshan.

Ceaser, 50, who was shot in the back thrice while jogging along a Gulshan street, has been working for an international organization.

According to the SITE Intelligence Group, a jihadist threat monitoring portal, Islamic State claimed the responsibility for the killing in an online statement. Endi
