Burkina Faso's gendarmerie general Djibril Bassole, Minister of Foreign Affairs under the regime of former President Blaise Compaore, is arrested on Tuesday in the capital Ouagadougou.
Djibril Bassole is suspected of conniving with militaries that lately seized power in the West African country, security source told Xinhua.
On Monday, he was indicted by the government of transition to be colluding with coup leader Brigadier General Gilbert Diendere to manipulate militaries of the Presidential Security Regime (RSP) that perpetrated the coup-d'etat weeks ago.
The government of transition, who returned to power after the coup, is also accusing Djibril Bassole and Gilbert Diendere to be plotting with jihadist terrorist groups to destabilize Burkina Faso.
The council of constitution, transitional national assembly invalidated the application of Bassole some time ago, to the coming presidential election expected to establish new institutions in the country.
Earlier this morning, Bassole disclosed in a release the existence of a "campaign of demonizing" orchestrated against him.
Just after transition authorities returned to power, they proclaimed the dissolution of the elite army unit RSP and started disarming soldiers of that regiment supposed to be well equipped and trained under Blaise Compaore's 27 year regime.
The process stopped on Saturday as a bunch of inflexible soldiers in camp Naaba Koom, in Ouagadougou, refused to lay arms down.
With these last events, tensions have escalated in the West african country and the Ouagadougou international airport is closed since hours, Xinhua reporter witnessed. Enditem
