Over 30 PKK members killed in cross border operation: Turkish president

The Turkish military killed more than 30 members of outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in a cross-border operation into northern Iraq overnight, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.

"We'll not stop, but continue (military operations)," Erdogan said, adding that the Turkish military has killed more than 2,000 PKK members in both domestic and cross border operations since July.

Two police officers were killed on Monday evening in a gun attack in town of Seyhan in southern Adana province, Adana Governor Mustafa Buyuk was quoted as saying by private Dogan News Agency on Tuesday.

Wide scale operations have been carried out in the region to apprehend PKK suspects, said Buyuk.

Last Thursday and Friday, two Turkish soldiers and 34 PKK militants were killed in clashes in eastern Turkish province of Sirnak, according to Turkey's General Staff headquarters.

Tensions have soared in Turkey as the government launched a major military operation against PKK militants, while the latter has kept hitting back since a ceasefire fell apart in July.

The PKK is designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States. Endit
