Israel nab 2 Palestinians for revenge firebomb attack on Jewish settlement

Xinhua, September 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Israel announced on Tuesday to have arrested two Palestinians from the West Bank who were in connection with a firebomb attack on a gas station at a Jewish settlement in August.

Israeli forces said they had arrested Majdi Galal Ezzkat Kowarik and Ahmed Azam Ata Abdat from Palestinian village of Awarta, near Nablus, in a joint operation.

On Aug. 14, the two threw a Molotov cocktail that set fire to the gas station at the Jewish settlement of Ali. No injuries were reported in the attack.

Israeli authorities believe the two belonged to a Palestinian "terror cell" associated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestinian militant movement, according to statement on Tuesday.

"The arrest of the terror cell was a result of forensic evidence found at the scene and eyewitness testimony," the statement said, adding the two had confessed.

The suspects said during interrogation that they carried out the attack in revenge for the firebombing in Palestinian village of Duma on July 31.

In the Duma case, perpetrators threw firebombs at the house of the Palestinian Dawabshe family, killing three family members, including an 18-month-old baby, and seriously injuring his four-year-old brother. Israeli authorities have yet to apprehend the Jewish extremists. Endit
