Tokyo shares open lower on stronger yen

Tokyo shares opened the trading Monday sharply lower as sentiment here was weighed down by the yen 's advance against U.S. dollars.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 262.23 points, or 1.47 percent, from Friday to 17,618.28.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 18.33 points, or 1.26 percent, to 1, 435.48. Endi
