Ban, Zuma meet on peace, security in Africa

Xinhua, September 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday met here with South African President Jacob Zuma on the peace and security in African countries.

During the meeting, Ban thanked the president for "his personal cooperation with the United Nations in trying to resolve a number of peace and security issues in Africa," the UN Spokesperson's Office told reporters here after the meeting.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the current UN Summit for the Adoption of Post-2015 Development Agenda, a three-day event which entered its second day here.

"They discussed the situation in Burundi, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including the role of South Africa as a contributor to the Force Intervention Brigade of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO)," the UN office said.

"The secretary-general welcomed South Africa's involvement in international efforts on climate change and sustainable development," it said.

They also discussed UN issues, including Security Council reform, said the office. Enditem
