Ban meets president of Uruguay on UN peacekeeping operations

Xinhua, September 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday met here with Tabare Vazquez Rosas, the president of Uruguay, and they exchanged issues on UN peacekeeping operations.

During the meeting, the secretary-general thanked Uruguay "for its strong commitment to UN peacekeeping and for being a co-host of the 2015 peacekeeping summit," the UN Spokesperson's Office told reporters here after the meeting.

Ban also thanked Uruguay for its support for the peace process in Colombia, said the UN office.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the current UN Summit for the Adoption of Post-2015 Development Agenda, a three-day event which entered its second day here. The summit adopted the new global sustainable development agenda, a set of 17 economic, social and environmental goals that aim to end poverty and hunger, achieve gender equality, and tackle climate change, among other aims.

They further exchanged views on the Post-2015 development agenda and regional issues, the office added. Enditem
