China warns officials against extravagance in holiday season

Xinhua, September 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Central discipline authorities have warned officials to rein in spending and gift giving during the upcoming Mid-autumn Festival and National Day.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of China on Friday told officials to stay frugal and not be tempted by corruption.

The CCDI also released details of several cases.

Wang Shenyang, director of Department of Outward Investment and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce, was removed from office for playing golf and visiting private clubs using public money. He was also ordered to return all the fees unlawfully taken.

Using public funds for private ends and government vehicles for private travel are strictly forbidden during the holiday period, the CCDI said. Endi
