With the upcoming National Day of China on Oct. 1, the Chinese Embassy in Windhoek on Thursday evening hosted a number of dignitaries to mark the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Former President of Namibia, Hifikepunye Pohamba and his wife graced the occasion as well as Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and representatives from the Namibian Military forces.

The host, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Xin Shunkang said, in the 66 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people have been striving with bold innovation and practices and have found the best development path on their own and made remarkable achievements.

"Now China has become the second biggest economy, the first trading country with the largest foreign reserves and the third biggest investing country in the world," Xin added.

Xin said the development of China's economy is the important foundation of China-Africa cooperation. "The current China-Africa cooperation is full of vitality and creates new opportunities for bilateral cooperation," he said.

Furthermore, Xin said that China and Namibia have set up a good model in China-Africa relations. "Distance can not separate true friends even if they are thousands of miles apart. This is a vivid reflection of the friendship between our two countries."

Meanwhile, in August Namibia became the first African country to export beef to China and further more, plans to build a Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine factory in Namibia are in the pipeline and are under discussion between China and Namibia.

"I firmly believe that with the joint efforts of both sides, the friendly relations and cooperation between China and Namibia will become more vitalized like the Welwitschia in the Namib Desert," he said. Endit
