Security has been tightened around a Brisbane court house in Australia as a man was committed to stand trial over allegations he sent money to a terrorist group in Syria and helped arrange for another man to join fighters in the region.
Omar Succarieh appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, more than a year after his arrest in a series of counter- terrorism raids in Queensland.
Security had been tightened at the court house with security guards checking visitors outside the court room in addition to the usual security procedures at the court's entrance.
The 32-year-old man was committed to a Supreme Court trial charged making fund available to the Jabhat al-Nursa group, facilitating arrangements for Australian resident Agim Kruezi's passage to Syria and another offence under Australia's Foreign Incursion and Recruitment Act.
Local media on Friday reported Succarieh appeared relaxed in court, smiling and chatting with his lawyer and also with a security guard before the hearing began.
Kruezi has not yet faced a committal hearing, though he is charged with twice committing preparatory acts for terrorism, committing a preparatory acts for incursion, recruiting people to join hostile activities against foreign governments and unlawful possession of weapons and explosives. Endi
