All Singaporean pilgrims who are on their haj pilgrimage are accounted for and safe, said Singapore's Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim in his facebook post on Thursday.

Yaacob Ibrahim said he was saddened by the news of the stampede at haj near Saudi Arabia's holy city of Mecca, and he learnt from Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) that "all Singaporean pilgrims are accounted for and are safe."

"Our deepest condolences to the families of those who perished. Let us pray for the recovery of those injured, and may all pilgrims be able to complete their haj safely and smoothly," added Yaacob Ibrahim.

Saudi authorities said the total number of pilgrims killed in the stampede Thursday in Mecca has risen to 453, and the number of injured has surged to 719.

The stampede happened amid a rush of the stoning as part of Hajj rituals. Endi
