Volkswagen manipulated data in Europe too: German minister

German automaker Volkswagen manipulated emission-testing data not only in the United States but also in Europe, said German Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt on Thursday.

He said the German government was informed that Volkswagen vehicles with 1.6 and 2 liter diesel engines in Europe were affected by the manipulations.

The number of cars involved remains unknown, he said, but would become clear "in the coming days."

Dobrindt added that random tests would be conducted in vehicles manufactured by other automakers.

Volkswagen admitted earlier this week that it had installed a software that could manipulate emission-testing data in some 11 million diesel vehicles.

Its chief executive Martin Winterkorn resigned Wednesday after apologizing for breaking the trust of "millions of people all over the world." Endit
