Zambia's FA lauds plans to host Africa under-20 championship

Xinhua, September 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Zambia's soccer governing body on Wednesday welcomed government's decision to approve the hosting of the 2017 Africa Youth Under-20 Championship.

On Tuesday, the Zambian Cabinet approved the hosting of the tournament as part of government efforts to develop soccer in the country.

The government said the hosting of the tournament will be a major milestone for the country and a prerequisite for the country to host the Africa Cup of Nations or the World Cup in future.

Kalusha Bwalya, the president of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), who also heads the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Under-17 tournament organizing committee, has expressed delight over the decision, according to a statement posted on the soccer governing body's official website.

The soccer governing body has since commended the government for the move, which would go a long way in the development of the game.

The African Youth Championship is a bi-annual international youth football competition for CAF nations, and is competed for by the under 20 years of age category. Endit
