Seoul shares ended lower on Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dropped 37.42 points, or 1.89 percent, to 1,944.64 at the close. Trading volume stood at 845.59 million shares worth 4.85 trillion won (4. 07 billion U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks moved down 2.26 percent, or 493. 67 points, to close at 21,302.91 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 21,008.61 and 21, 577.45. Turnover totaled 92.65 billion HK dollars (about 11.95 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.76 percent lower on Wednesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 124. 32 points to 6,926.91. The all-share index went down by 38.47 points, or 0.95 percent, to 3,995.09.

Trading volume reached 879.66 million shares worth 7.62 billion pesos ( 163.69 million U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese shares sank on Wednesday after data showed continued downward pressure on the economy, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 2.19 percent to end at 3,115.89 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 1.04 percent to close at 10, 132.3 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, declined 0.04 percent to close at 2, 077.99 points.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 78.47 points on Wednesday, up 0.12 points, or 0. 15 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of nearly 32.745 million shares worth around 378.183 billion Vietnamese dong (some 17.35 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday, a decrease of 30 percent in volume and 30.57 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 572.72 points on Wednesday, down 0.48 points, or 0.08 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 107.830 million shares worth 1.876 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (85.70 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 95 stocks went up, 109 stocks fell down, while 76 stocks remained unchanged.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 99.62 points, or 2. 29 percent, to a level of 4,244.43 on Wednesday.

Some 184,879 transactions were booked, involving 7.02 billion shares worth 4.91 trillion rupiah (about 335.74 million U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 22.73 points, or 0.79 percent, to close at 2,845.74.

A total of 1.35 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 24 billion Singapore dollars (873.2 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index moved down 4.15 points, or 0.30 percent, to close at 1,375.17 on Wednesday.

Some 7.92 billion shares worth 33.60 billion baht (about 960 million U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks rebounded on Wednesday despite China's week PMI data.
