Iceland's unemployment stands at 3.8 pct in August

Iceland's unemployment rate stood at 3.8 percent in August 2015, registering a year-on-year decrease of 0.9 percent, according to a labor force survey issued Wednesday by Statistics Iceland.

The survey showed the number of people in the labor force market in August 2015 was 197,300, of which 7,500 people were unemployed. The activity rate was 84.3 percent, the employment rate was 81.1 percent and the unemployment rate was 3.8 percent.

Seasonally-adjusted data showed that in August, the number of unemployed people amounted to 8,200, up by 500 from July. The unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in August compared to 4 percent in July.

Seasonal adjustment is a statistical method for removing the seasonal component of a time series that is used when analyzing non-seasonal trends. Enditem
