PNA calls for int'l investigation of killing Palestinian girl in Hebron

Xinhua, September 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) called on Tuesday to form an international investigation panel to probe the killing of a Palestinian girl in the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

The PNA government said in an official press statement that the international community is called to exert pressure on Israel to stop the "occupation policy based on the easy killing of Palestinians without accountability."

Earlier Tuesday, Israeli soldiers shot dead Hadeel Hashalmoun, an 18-year-old girl from Hebron, and claimed that she tried to stab an Israeli soldier by a knife that she was carrying.

However, local photographers in Hebron took photos of the girl before she was shot earlier on Tuesday morning, showing her wearing long-sleeve black dress and a black veil and stood in front of a soldier who pointed a gun at hear.

"The photos of the girl clearly showed that the life of the soldier, who shot her only because she stood in front of him, wasn't in danger," said the PNA statement, adding that "this shows the Israeli official story that she tried to stab the soldier was untrue."

Israeli Radio had quoted an Israeli army spokesman earlier Tuesday as saying that the women was shot and critically wounded by Israeli soldiers' gunfire after she tried to stab an Israeli soldier in the old city Hebron.

Overnight, a Palestinian man was killed in clashes with an Israeli army force in the city, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources.

Israeli army sources told Xinhua that a young man attempted to throw a bomb at the Israeli soldiers but it exploded and killed him.

Sources at the Palestinian Red Crescent told Xinhua that it was notified that a Palestinian man's body was laid on the floor, adding that Israeli army vehicles closed down the area and prevented ambulances from providing medical aid.

Eyewitness said that "clashes broke out between the un-identified Palestinian and Israeli soldiers. As he attempted to throw a grenade at them, they shot him dead."

The last time a Palestinian was killed by the Israeli army's fire took place on Aug. 15 near the northern West Bank city of Nablus. At the time, Israeli sources said the Palestinian man attempted to stab soldiers at Beta military checkpoint when they shot him. Endit
