Slovakia against EU ministers' vote on mandatory quotas of refugees: PM

Xinhua, September 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed his strong opposition to the vote of EU interior ministers, who approved the proposal to resettle 120,000 migrants among individual EU countries on Tuesday.

Fico claimed that as long as he is the prime minister, mandatory quotas won't be implemented in Slovakia.

As part of the solution to the migration crisis, Slovakia is offering money, personnel and, if necessary, military presence and aid in securing the external borders, according to Fico.

Speaking at the session of the European Affairs Parliamentary Committee, Fico said that the decision made by the interior ministers will significantly influence the extraordinary EU summit slated for Wednesday.

"There'll be a heated debate on what just occurred," stressed Fico, adding that the mandatory resettlement will end in a debacle. Endit
