Xinhua, September 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

A new factory belonging to Oerlikon Balzers, a leading global company in surface-finishing technologies, opened in the industrial park in Velka Ida near Kosice in the Eastern Slovakia on Tuesday.

"We'll be able to supply all large car manufacturers and suppliers around Europe. This park is industrially well developed and the whole region has a highly qualified workforce, good transport connections and education opportunities," stressed Oerlikon Balzers director Bernd Fischer.

The total investment hovers around 20 million euros (22 million U.S. dollars), while most of the equipment was developed by the company in Liechtenstein.

Production in Velka Ida has started with 37 employees, but Oerlikon would like to create a total of 100 jobs, mostly for skilled workers in the areas of metal processing, mechatronics and the engineering professions in areas of mechanical engineering and quality with experience in the automobile industry. The second phase of construction is planned for 2017 and 2018.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has welcomed the new investment and also emphasized that Slovakia is the most industrial European country when it comes to the share taken by industry in GDP creation.

"It shows that Slovakia is attractive to foreign investors. I hope that there will be more such investments by the end of this year," stated Fico. Endit
