One person has been reported dead in an old building collapse in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Tuesday afternoon, local media VNExpress reported.

Meanwhile, according to Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA, there were nearly 20 people staying in the two-storey building during the time it collapsed. Some 15 were rescued with five of them suffering serious injuries.

At least two other people were still being trapped, said VNA.

Rescue work is still underway while relevant authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.

The building has been used by Vietnam Railway Company since 1955 and has undergone several upgrades.

Vietnam's capital Hanoi has been suffering heavy rain since Monday night. Endi
