U.S. Central Command head visits Abu Dhabi

Xinhua, September 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

The commander of the U.S. Central Command, Gen. Lloyd Austin III, visited Abu Dhabi on Monday, official news agency WAM of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reported.

Austin was received by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, WAM said.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation, especially in the military field, defense coordination, the latest developments in the region and some other of issues of mutual interest, the agency said.

The United States and the UAE have been key political allies and close trade partners for decades. The UAE is a member of a U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) militant group. Washington also supports a Saudi-led coalition, of which the UAE is a part, against Houthi rebels in Yemen. Endit
