Hundreds of refugees wait to enter Slovenia

Xinhua, September 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Several hundreds of refugees at Slovenian border crossings near the city of Brezice spent a calm overnight on Saturday waiting to enter Slovenia after nearly 1,000 refugees were admitted into Slovenia.

Slovenian police spokesperson Alenka Drenik told local press that there was no major developments overnight, according to Slovenian Press Agency.

The arrivals of refugee from Croatia were moved from the reception center in Brezice to several accommodation centers in north-eastern Slovenia, including in Maribor and Lenart.

The reception center in Brezice is currently empty, said Drenik, while over 2,000 refugees have so far been let in or apprehended after illegally crossing into Slovenia since making their way from accommodation centers in Croatia.

The Obrezje crossing was turned into a makeshift camp on Saturday, with humanitarian organizations setting up base to provide basic necessities to those waiting at the border.

Meanwhile, it is expected that many of those who have been settled in accommodation centers in Slovenia will try to proceed to the border with Austria. A few hundred walked or took the train to the Austrian border Saturday. Enditem
