The focus of the refugee crisis in Serbia shifted towards Croatian border crossings Bezdan and Tovarnik on Thursday, after Hungary kept its border with Serbia closed for several days.
Now only several hundred people remained at the closed border crossings of Horgos 1 and 2, although yesterday more than 3,500 were there protesting and waiting for Hungarians to back down, with more people getting out of buses and joining constantly.
From Wednesday night more than 3,500 migrants were transported by buses towards the Croatian border crossings Bezdan and Sid, with the financial assistance of the UN's International Organization for Migrations.
More refugees coming from the Serbia's southern border joined at Croatian border crossing Bezdan and Tovarnik, around 7,000 thousand people entered Croatia today.
Thousands of people in small groups continue to arrive at Serbia's southern border with Macedonia, where they move directly towards Croatia.
The situation at Horgos 1 and Horgos 2 has become peaceful again after protests and humanitarian problem that started since midnight on Monday when Hungary decided to close the border.
Serbian minister of labor and social policy Aleksandar Vulin who visited the border crossings with Croatia at Bezdan Thursday said that the reception of migrants has been organized in the northern Serbian municipality of Sombor, where the Red Cross brought supplies of water.
"There are many children here, but we are well organized, which is why no one will suffer from health problems, and our attitude towards these people, no matter how long they stay in our country or in what part of Serbia, is not going to change in any way," Vulin said.
Vulin urged all countries on the refugees' route to follow Serbia's example.
According to official data some 6,000 people have received medical assistance in Serbia since the beginning of the refugee crisis, while around 60,000 people received humanitarian aid from the Red Cross. Endit
