Saudi diplomat accused of raping Nepalese women has left India

Xinhua, September 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Indian government said on Wednesday the Saudi Arabian diplomat, who is accused of confinement and rape of two Nepalese women in Indian capital region, has left the country.

"We have learnt that the first secretary Majed Hassan Ashoor who was allegedly accused of raping two Nepalese women has left India," Indian External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Vikas Swaroop said.

"The first secretary being a diplomat is governed by the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," he added.

Earlier, India had called in the Saudi Arabia ambassador to seek his cooperation in the investigation into the allegations against the diplomat.

The two Nepalese women, aged 30 and 50 respectively, filed complaints with police alleging the diplomat beat and sexually assaulted them while they were imprisoned at his apartment in Gurgaon, a satellite city outside Delhi.

After the charges surfaced the diplomat had left his Gurgaon house and had taken protective shelter in the Saudi embassy, local media reported.

The Indian police rescued the two Nepalese women last week from a luxury flat in Gurgaon. Endi
