China's Huawei to assist in regional ICT development in Africa

Southern African Telecommunication Association (SATA) Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China's leading telecom-solutions provider here to jointly enhance ICT development in the southern Africa region.

The MoU was signed at the ongoing SATA conference themed "Customer services, quality of service and billing." The two sides pledge to jointly enhance ICT infrastructure development, ICT literacy capability as well as extend advisory services on regional ICT development plan.

SATA Executive Secretary and CEO Jacob Munodawafa told Xinhua in an interview that the MoU comes after long time discussing in terms of how the two parties can support region's ICT industry, adding that Huawei is one of the leading suppliers of solutions and services ICT industry, which makes SATA choosing Huawei as its partner.

Huawei is a global leading ICT solutions provider and a Fortune Global 500 company. It's telecom network devices, IT products and solutions, and smart devices have been adopted in over 170 countries, serving more than one third of the world's population.

"We also have other suppliers from China, we look forward them in the future, to see how we can also partner with them," He told Xinhua in an interview on the sidelines of the conference, adding that skills shortage is the area that it looks forward most.

Technology is moving very fast,we need to train people and experts. The partnership with Huawei will also help the regional ICT industry to bridge skills gaps, he said.

"As part of our commitment to this MoU with SATA, Huawei will have the privilege to make greater efforts to the ICT development Southern Africa with our innovative ICT solutions and leading ICT training resources," said Yang Hongjie, head of Huawei's Eastern and Southern Africa marketing department, after signing the MoU.
