Nigeria's U-23 football coach rues semifinal loss to Burkina Faso in AAG

Xinhua, September 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nigeria's U-23 football team loss to Burkina Faso in a semifinal match at the ongoing All Africa Games (AAG) in Congo was caused by defensive errors on the Nigerian side, coach of the Nigerian team, Samson Siasia said Wednesday.

The Burkina Faso players, also known as the Burkinabes, played with more tactical approach to the game, thereby coming out strong and fast against their Nigerian counterpart, Siasia told Xinhua via telephone.

He regretted the loss, saying it would have been avoidable if his players had played to instructions and did not make some unexpected mistakes at the defense line.

"We did not play well at the back and going forward, we were unable to create enough chances," he added.

The Nigerian side, which had hoped for a gold medal of the football event at the ongoing All Africa Games, will now face hosts Congo for bronze medal while Burkina Faso is billed to play against Senegal to jostle for gold medal. Endi
