Singapore PM sends congratulatory message to Australian PM

Xinhua, September 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has written a congratulatory message to Australia's new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday.

Lee, who first congratulated Turnbull on his appointment, said in the message that Singapore and Australia enjoy an excellent relationship, based on strong cooperation on a wide range of issues.

"Our two countries share similar strategic outlooks. We both value regional stability built on the principles of international law. Singapore believes that Australia plays a key role promoting peace and prosperity in Asia," Lee said.

While looking forward to making an official visit to Australia in the middle of next year, Lee also invited Turnbull to visit Singapore when his schedule permits.

Lee also sent a valedictory message to former Australian PM Tony Abbott, saying that Abbott's official visit to Singapore in June this year raised bilateral partnership to a new level.

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, signed during Abbott's visit, is a "significant milestone in the long-standing friendship between Australia and Singapore," Lee said. Endi
